Aka Tora Mai is a newly developed medaka strain created in 2024 through the crossbreeding of third-generation Tōtenkō (F3) and Akatora (F3).

This unique variety retains the elegant and well-balanced body shape of Tōtenkō, while beautifully expressing the distinctive Akatora pattern within its body coloration. In addition, it features the desirable Hikari body type, showcasing a refined dorsal shine and graceful swimming presence.

The strain first began to appear in late 2024, and the current offering consists of well-bred F3 generation fish, produced from the initial founding individuals.

With its rare combination of body form, pattern, and brilliance, Aka Tora Mai stands out as a highly collectible and promising new line, still limited in availability and expected to develop further in the coming generations.

******* The term HIKARI Body type *******

Originated from the migration of iridophore cells from the abdomen to the back, causing the fish to appear luminous when viewed from above. 

Nowadays, since there are Hikari body types without this luminescence, identification is based on the tail and dorsal fins.
When breeding two Hikari body types, 99% of the offspring display the Hikari phenotype, making it a safe choice for beginners. Additionally, a high frequency of individuals with curved bones is another characteristic feature.
